Birmingham Wheels Saturday 25 March

Saturday March 25 saw the Central hot Rods back out again, this time at a wet Birmingham Wheels, Along with some of the Buxton regulars were National drivers Wilson Hamilton and Russell Wilcox while John Sibbald and Ian McGuigan made the long trip down from Scotland.

A wet and slippery track saw the rods off for the opening heat, Buxton driver Iain Whittaker shot into the lead in his green Corsa from pole position and took a comfortable win, behind him the Grayson Brothers, Iain and Ivan were having a great battle circulating side by side for many laps until Iain finally took the advantage. Heat 2 saw Paul Bennett in his mini and Tony Stannard in his 206 on the front row while Iain Grayson pulled off before the green with throttle problems, at the green these two were slow off the mark allowing Dave Cope into the lead in his Starlet, Whittaker was again charging and made it through for the lead at the end of lap one and again won convincingly.

The rain was coming down hard for the final and Iain Grayson’s 205 was quickly into the lead from his second row starting position, Whittaker started this from the fifth row and although he chased hard fighting his way through the filed Iain G had to bigger an advantage and took the chequers from Whittaker.

Hednesford Hills Raceway 12th March 2006 

 The first Outlaw meting of the year took place at Hednesford Hills on Sunday 12th March, an interesting entry of 16 cars were present including National Drivers Stu Carter and Wilson Hamilton, Many of the Buxton Cars were present including Matt Painter in the Ex Peter Blood National 206 , while his Mini was out in the hands of Paul Bennett. The famous Tandy Starlet was also present being raced by son Nick while Steve Hunt brought his fast Honda up from the West Country.

Heat 1 saw Dave Cope lead in his Starlet until Nick Tandy got by, however Hunt was flying and was soon into the lead to take a convincing win, Tandy held on for second from Hamilton and Carter. 

Result:- 282 (Steve Hunt), 128 (Nick Tandy), 904 (Wilson Hamilton), 85 (Stu Carter), 06 (Matt Paynter), 1 (Ivan Grayson), 171 (Adrian Hall), 14 (Ian Whitaker), 24 (Paul Bennett), 101 (Tony Stannard)

Iain Grayson led them away for the second heat with Tandy following, however at the back Carter, Wilson and Hunt were all flying with Hamilton getting the better of hunt of Carter to chase after the leaders. Hunt Demoted Carter and these two soon relegated Tandy and Grayson with Tandy getting the better of Grayson in the dying laps the final order being Hamilton, Hunt, Tandy and Grayson.

So to the final and it was a case of who did you watch, Grayson and Carter or Hunt and Hamilton. Grayson led them off with Tandy following close behind while Hunt got the better start and led Hamilton, these two cutting through the pack with Hamilton Chasing hard. These two eventually caught the leading duo and a terrific battle was on, they both got by Tandy however Hamilton managed to get by both Hunt and Grayson with Tandy even getting by hunt as well, Hunt fought back and over the dying laps all four were locked together, Hamilton eventually emerging the winner from Hunt, Grayson and Tandy.
